Who doesn’t love a beanbag chair?

We found this pattern on Etsy and absolutely love it. It has a lovely teardrop shape and a little handle on top so you can drag it from room to room—which becomes pretty important if you make the same choice we did and fill yours with your own combination of shredded foam and polyfill.

A little warning: shredded foam is surprisingly heavy. But the payoff is worth it. This combination creates the softest, squishiest, most comfortable seat in the house. We purchased an inexpensive beanbag liner online and filled it with our own shredded foam and polyfill. Believe me when I tell you that shredded foam expands and compresses like nothing you’ve ever seen before. What looks like a completely unreasonable amount of foam somehow disappears into the bag.

You can also purchase a beanbag insert that’s already filled, so it really comes down to the kind of feel you want—and how heavy you want your beanbag to be.

Construction is very straightforward, and the pattern is exceptionally well written. We highly recommend having the pattern printed for you at FedEx Office or another large-format printer rather than attempting to assemble all those enormous pattern pieces yourself. And definitely make sure you have plenty of space for a big layout when it’s time to cut.

The good news is that once the cutting is done, it’s easy-peasy from there.

One final warning: once your dog discovers this beanbag chair, you may never get it back.
