We designed this one to be filled with poly fill and tufted so that the whole thing can go right into the washer and dryer—a very important feature when something is destined to live on a family sofa!

As with all of our patterns, we designed this specifically for the weight and structure of our sailcloth prints. We love the combination of one of our printed sailcloths with one of our solid canvases, too. And there’s a nice bonus: depending on the size of your sofa, you’ll likely have enough fabric left over to make a whole collection of pillows to mix and match with your topper.

This project takes a lot of poly fill, but don’t let that scare you. A little measuring goes a long way, and taking the time to measure your sofa carefully before you begin will make all the difference in getting the fit and fullness just right.

We love adding a little personality with contrast piping around the edges, or even a tassel or two on the corners. If you’re making one for a space used by little ones, just be mindful of small, curious fingers and choose your finishing details accordingly.

The finished topper is one of the coziest things you can put on a sofa. And once you start using one, you’ll quickly realize it’s more than a beautiful accessory. It creates a soft, comfortable layer that protects your sofa from pets, spills, bare feet, and all the other wonderfully messy parts of family life.
